Question 1

How does QDiabetes differ from FINDRISC?

Accepted Answer

QDiabetes is a statistical model (Cox regression) calibrated to UK primary-care data, while FINDRISC is a point-based score from a Finnish cohort. QDiabetes includes ethnicity, social deprivation, and cardiovascular disease history — factors not in FINDRISC.

Question 2

Can I use QDiabetes outside the UK?

Accepted Answer

The model has been validated in some non-UK populations, but the absolute risk estimates may be over- or underestimated. Consider using local calibration if available. The rank-order of risk should be reasonably consistent across populations.

Question 3

Should QDiabetes be used for diabetes screening in pregnancy?

Accepted Answer

No. QDiabetes is not validated for gestational diabetes screening. Gestational diabetes is screened using OGTT at 24–28 weeks gestation as per NICE, ACOG, or IADPSG guidelines.

Question 4

How often should QDiabetes be recalculated?

Accepted Answer

Re-calculate annually or when major risk factors change. New diagnosis of hypertension, cardiovascular disease, or significant weight gain should prompt re-assessment.
